The President of the Republic of Macedonia Dr. Gjorge Ivanov, as of tomorrow will be visiting Chicago, where upon invitation of the NATO Alliance will participate at the Summit of the North Atlantic Council, at a level of Heads of States and Governments, to be held 20-21 May, 2012.
The official delegation of the Republic of Macedonia led by the President Ivanov, is represented also by the Minister of Defense, Mr. Fatmir Besimi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Nikola Poposki, the Macedonian Ambassador within the resident mission to NATO, H.E Martin Trenevski, as well as the Macedonian Ambassador to the United States, Mr. Zoran Jolevski.
On May 21 - Monday, President Ivanov will address the meeting of the contributing countries to the NATO mission in Afghanistan – ISAF. On the margins of the Summit, President Ivanov will have several bilateral meetings. During the visit in Chicago, the President will also take part in a couple of events organized by the United Macedonian Diaspora, and will meet with the representatives of the Albanian community.
According to the conclusions of the Lisbon Summit, the focus of discussion at the Summit in Chicago, will be the further strengthening of the partnership with Afghanistan. In this context, the discussions will include issues concerning the implementation of the transition process (taking responsibility for the security of the country by the Afghanistan security forces and increase their capacity), and the transformation following after 2014.
